Coffee Tea
Coffee Tea is better known as Cascara on the global market. Once depulped, the coffee bean is separated from the outer skin called the cherry. On the farm, we process this skin for coffee tea where it is washed and solar dried and prepped for loose leaf tea.
Cascara is a very earthy tea and may not be associated as a tea from a flavor profile. Containing 20% of the caffeine that coffee has, the tea makes a great drink for those that want a different experience. High in antioxidants, coffee tea is brewed much like any other loose leaf tea so the nutrients are extracted in same process. However, serving it can be a little different. There are several ways cascara is served. For example, sweeteners like honey or agave syrup can be used along with lemon slices and sparkling water. Other ways to enjoy cascara is with simple syrup and spices like cinnamon or ginger served with citrus zest (orange or lime or even fresh herbs like mint.
At the farm, we like to introduce the coffee tea while brewed with fresh ginger and served with honey and mint. It’s always fun to share this tea with visitors as another experience they won’t soon forget!
